1. Scholarships

Are you planning to go to college? It can be exciting to make those plans, but college costs money. Scholarships are one source of money to help cover the cost of college. The Web site, Disaboom, recently launched a list of scholarships for students with disabilities. For more information, please visit http://www.disaboom.com/scholarships.

2. Funding Education After High School

The U.S. Department of Education’s Guide to Federal Student Aid provides information for students and families on applying for federal student aid to pay for post-secondary education. This guide explains how to fill out the application and how to apply for the various federal funds they offer. Education opens doors and is an important step toward success. For more information, please visit http://tinyurl.com/yk7uot7

3. Federal Student Aid Grant Program Fact Sheet

Disability.Gov has a fact sheet that gives an overview of the major federal student aid grant programs. The federal government provides grants for students attending colleges, including career colleges and universities. Grants, unlike loans, do not have to be repaid. For more information, please visit http://tinyurl.com/yfbe5tb or for Spanish http://tinyurl.com/yz2zheg.

4. College.gov

This Web site is made by students, for students. Information is available on why students may want to attend college, what to do in the process of applying to schools, and how to pay for school. For more information, please visit http://www.college.gov.

5. Your Rights and Responsibilities

The U.S. Department of Education has a free booklet for students with disabilities who want to know their rights and what they are responsible for when they finish high school. This booklet is available through the TRIAD Library and Computer Lab by contacting Jerry R. Alliston at 1.601.266.5163, 1.888.671.0051 (TTY) or jerry.alliston@usm.edu.  You may also request a free copy at http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/transition.html.
