- NASA Stennis Space Center Co-op Education Opportunity
NASA Stennis Space Center is recruiting college/university students with disabilities for two cooperative education student positions for Summer 2010. One position is in the Design and Analysis Group and the other is in the Finance Department. This program is to train and develop students during participation in the program with the possibility of future full-time employment at graduation. Eligible is based on several factors including full-time college enrollment, U.S. citizenship, and enrollment in a college/university cooperative education program. The deadline to submit is February 17, 2010. To submit a resume or to get more information, please contact Ms. Jo Ann Larson at Joann.n.larson@nasa.gov or 228.688.2079. Also, the co-op announcement is listed below.
Cooperative Education Program (Student Co-op)
The Cooperative Education Program is a great way to start your NASA Career. This program gives you an opportunity to combine your academic studies with “real world” work experience - it's a great opportunity to work on exciting NASA projects, earn money, take advantage of an excellent benefit package and complete your education.
The Co-op Program requires students to alternate between periods of academic study with equal periods of work. The Co-op Program is designed to train and develop students during participation in the Program for the possibility of conversion for full time employment upon graduation.
Co-op Eligibility Requirements:
· Attendance at an accredited college/university on a full-time basis;
· Have United States Citizenship; and
· Enroll in your college/university Cooperative Education Program
NASA Stennis Space Center, Mississippi, is recruiting students with disabilities for two Cooperative Education Student positions:
· Summer thru Fall semester work-experience
· One position is the Engineering and Science Directorate - specifically in the Design and Analysis group
· The other opportunity is in the Finance Department
Design and Analysis Position
· Majors - Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Physics
· Preferably curriculum with a thermal/fluids emphasis
· Student will be assigned a specific project and also be available for general engineering support duties i.e. research, documentation preparation, COTS (e.g., MS Excel, MathCAD, etc.) software use. For example, the following Statement of Work for engineering analysis work supporting a launch site design work: ‘Mechanical design and analysis support for the development of the Wallops Flight Facility. The student will support the facility design effort by performing research and field verification to finalize and/or refine requirements, perform calculations/analyses to verify the work of the design contractor, and interface with both on-site and off-site design contractors to coordinate the successful completion of the design package.’
· Academic qualifications - With regard to a candidates selection to work in the NASA environment, they typically search the resume pool for students with GPAs greater than 3.4 (due to the theoretical and analytic engineering rigor expected in this position). They will consider a lower GPA with mitigation rationale (e.g. a low grade in a particular area, but a good recommendation about the applicants affinity for analysis work)
Finance Position
· Major - Finance or Business with a Finance emphasis
· Academic Qualifications - 2.9 or above GPA
