How YES can Help

All young people, regardless of their abilities, have concerns about what they will do as they begin their careers. Not knowing how to find a job and lacking specific work skills that lead to employment are added sources of anxiety for young people with disabilities.

Does your program need help—

  • Recruiting youth with disabilities?
  • Serving youth with disabilities?
  • Retaining youth with disabilities?

YES can increase your program’s ability to—

  • Recognize and assess youth with disabilities
  • Refine recruitment methods
  • Provide person-centered services
  • Integrate assistive technology
  • Develop and implement innovative curricula
  • Promote career development
  • Interact positively with youth with disabilities
  • Develop supported employment
  • Meet mandates of disability-related laws

Studies show that U.S. business and industry greatly value attitude, communication skills, and work experience when deciding to hire young people leaving school. WIA programs have the potential to provide a variety of work preparation that can assist youth with disabilities with their career ambitions.

YES can assist your program with-

  • Training of WIA staff through workshops
  • One-on-one consultation
  • Interactive video networking
  • National speakers
  • Our dynamic Web site
  • Technical assistance to staff
  • Informative e-mail
  • Telephone and video conferencing
  • A program listserv.
