Types of Audit Services
Operational Also called performance audits, these are the most common audits. Operating procedures, flow of paperwork, and internal controls are thoroughly reviewed. These types of audits can be done on specific units of the university or on a particular process within an unit. Financial The Office of Internal Audit does a few of this type of audit, however the university's external auditors (state auditors) are responsible for conducting the majority of the required financial audits, with the Office of Internal Audit available to assist. During the course of the year, the Office of Internal Audit conducts a number of audits to assist the state auditors to accomplish this task. Compliance Various governmental programs and the NCAA have very specific rules and regulations with which organizations must comply. Audits in these areas are generally restricted to verification of such compliance. Information Systems (IS) This audit is a technical review of a computing function and would include data center operations, access security, software application processes, end-user computing. Investigative These audits are done to investigate incidents of possible fraud or misappropriation of university assets. The Office of Internal Audit works closely with senior-level management, university counsel, and the University Police Department or external agencies. |
