International
Student and Scholar Services
International
Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) was formed in
1955. ISSS coordinates all facets of international
student admissions and services for the international
student and scholar.
The ISSS provides a variety of services for international
students and scholars. These include orientation
and counseling on immigration regulations, culture
shock, and adjustment to life in the United States.
ISSS also provides assistance with immigration issues,
personal and academic adversity, social and extra
curricular activities, health insurance, emergencies,
etc.
ISSS offers programs throughout the academic year
in conjunction with the English Language Institute
and the International Student and Scholar Organization
(ISSO). Programs include the annual International
Student Fair, International Food Fair, the International
Holiday Dinner, special speakers, field trips, and
other activities.
ISSS process applications, and all relevant materials
for the student desiring admission to Southern Miss
as an undergraduate or graduate student. ISSS processes
approximately 5,000 requests for application each
year, evaluates foreign academic credentials and
annually receives nearly 1,100 applications from
overseas for admission to Southern Miss.
ISSS acts as liaison between the international student
and the local community by providing international
student speakers for civic organizations and for
schools.
