Service-Learning in Canada: Alternative Spring Break

The Program
Service Route is our version of an alternative Spring Break! Travel to Guelph and Toronto, Canada and learn about Homelessness issues and the Canadian health care system. Participants will work on service projects related to these topics alongside students from the University of Guelph. This worthwhile experience will enrich your life and change the lives of others!
Location
Travel to Guelph and Toronto, Canada and learn more about the sights and sounds of this breathtaking country and the University of Guelph campus through involvement with your student neighbors to the north.
Academic Credit
Service Route Alternative Spring Break awards three (3) semester hours of credit in social work.
Housing
Students will stay in the residence halls on the campus of the University of Guelph.
Cost
The cost of this program is $1,399. This includes your tuition, round-trip airfare, housing, fees, and in-country transportation.
Eligibility
Minimum program eligibility requirements include the completion of at least one semester with an overall 2.0 GPA, and clear academic standing. The director of the program, in consultation with the Director of International Education, has the authority to review and to approve or deny any application and is responsible for final enrollment decisions.
To Register
Completed applications and a $200 deposit fee will be accepted until January 18, 2008, space permitting. Southern Miss will acknowledge receipt of applications and students will be informed of their registration status. The balance of fees will be due no later than January 25, 2008. Applications are processed in the order of receipt. Rigid maximum quotas stand for all aspects of the program. Students may apply at any time prior to the deadline and are urged to apply early.
Financial Aid
The Service Route Program qualifies for financial aid in the form of guaranteed student loans and/or Pell grants. If you are interested in receiving financial aid, contact the International Programs Office before requesting a study abroad financial aid application from the unversity's Financial Aid Office.
*All students must have a valid passport to travel to Canada.
