The Reentry Experience
Returning home involves more than simply returning to your physical, geographical home. "Reentry" is the process through which students reenter their home country, their culture and their life-before-study-abroad (involving family relationships, work, classes, friendships). As you reflect on your experiences abroad and look for ways to incorporate and integrate the things you learned overseas into your life back home, you complete the cycle of intercultural learning that began when you left the United States.
While there will almost certainly be physical and emotional highs and lows associated with reentry, a number of strategies are available to help you make the most of your reentry experience. Click on the links provided to find helpful hints for helping you through the reentry process, and for keeping your study-abroad experience "alive."
