11.20.12 Student Wireless Update
Over 7,000 have joined and are using the new USM Wireless network. This is a great progress in the process of elimination of the USMStudent network. If you have not taken the steps to move to this new network, please do so at your earliest convenience.
To access this network, complete a one-time configuration by first connecting to the “USM Help” network. This configuration process will only take a few minutes to complete. Once completed, you will automatically be connected to the “USM” network and directed to the Southern Miss website. You will no longer have to enter your campus ID and password each time to access the wireless network at Southern Miss. For an additional convenience, all Wi-Fi-enabled devices, including phones and tablets, may also be configured to access the “USM” wireless network.
The USMStudent network will be discontinued on January 2, 2013.
If you need assistance to configure your device, go to the iTech website and click on Service Catalog/Connections and Accounts/Student Wireless (www.usm.edu/itech/student-wireless) or you may call the iTech Help Desk at 601.266.HELP (4357).
Faculty/staff will start using this network in the near future; watch for additional communications.
10.31.12 Southern Miss Phone Directory Update
A new Office Phone Number search field has been added to the Southern Miss Phone Directory Web page to assist customers with locating contact information for all campus locations. Customers can enter the office phone number or the name of the individual to be searched. The office phone number searched will be retrieved from the “Office Phone” listed in SOAR.
Please note: If you have a department phone number listed as your office phone, the search will not find you. Faculty and staff members can update their office phone numbers by logging into SOAR and navigating to Self-Service/USM Self-Service/Update Online Directory Info. With your help, the university can provide accurate information to our customers.
Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
10.26.12 Security Announcement: False E-mails
Recently, the Southern Miss community has been receiving phishing E-mails asking you to verify your e-mail and prompting you click on a link to go to the verification page. This is SPAM!
Phishing is the practice of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and/or financial details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity such as the help desk. Phishing is typically carried out by email requesting your personal information, directing you to a false website, or email attachment containing a virus.
Always verify the sender of the E-mail before opening it and the website credentials. If you can't verify the sender/website, delete the message immediately.
No one from the University will ever ask you for your personal information. That belongs to you and should be kept safe. For further assistance, contact the iTech Help Desk immediately at 601.266.HELP.
10.24.12 SOARFIN Scheduled Outage and Maintenance

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
