Scheduled Phone Outage
There will be a scheduled telephone outage on Thursday, June 12 beginning at 9 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. This planned outage will cause a brief interruption in the ability to make/receive telephone calls. The following buildings will be affected during this outage:
· Theatre and Dance
· Pine Haven Housing
· The Village
· Payne Center
· Reed Green Coliseum
· Pete Taylor Park (only analog and fax service)
· Elizabeth Harkins Hall (only Analog and fax service)
· Dubard Language School
· Speech and Hearing
· Liberal Arts Building
· International Center (only Analog and fax service)
· Frat Row

06.10.14 Get Hurricane-Prepared with Eagle Backup
Eagle Backup, a workstation backup service, is available to all employees of the university.
It provides users with an automatic backup of files in the computer’s “My Documents” folder and Outlook email. It will duplicate these files and email on your computer to a personal, secure location in the University Technology and Data Center without user intervention.
In case of equipment failure or hard drive crash, your files will be recoverable.
05.29.14 PHISHING ALERT
Please be aware of emails appearing to come from the University asking you to click on a link to view an email message. This is a PHISHING attempt. DO NOT click on the link. Delete the message immediately.Remember to always check the URL before logging into a website!
05.21.14 Scheduled Maintenance Window for Faculty/Staff Email
The university will have a scheduled maintenance window for faculty/staff email on Friday, May 23, beginning at 9 p.m. and ending at 5 a.m. This planned outage will NOT cause any interruption in the ability to send/store emails.
All scheduled outages and maintenance will have current up-to-date news on the iTech website. If you need to address an issue concerning this outage, contact the iTech Help Desk at 601.266.HELP (4357) before Wednesday, May 21.
05.07.14 Vulnerability in Internet Explorer Could Allow Remote Code Execution
Some versions of Internet Explorer contain a vulnerability that could allow an attacker to gain the same user rights as the current user. In an effort to protect the Southern Miss environment, iTech has pushed the Internet Explorer critical security update to all computers that are currently on the University's Active Directory system. If you are on Active Directory, your computer will be protected.
If you are not on Active Directory, or are unsure if you are, please use the Microsoft Windows Update tool that provides updates like service packs and patches for Windows operating system and other Microsoft software. To check for updates, go to http://goo.gl/fOa4UP for instructions.
