Eagle Back-up

Service Description

In The University Technology & Data Center (UTDC), we offer workstation back-up, also known as "Eagle Back-up," for all faculty and staff.

 

Services Offered

Computer/Client Eligibility

  • Computers must be property of The University of Southern Mississippi.
  • Clients (computers) must be running Microsoft Windows 7 SP1(32/64-bit), Windows 8/8.1(32/64-bit), Mac OS X 10.7 or greater, Cent OS 6.5(64-bit) or Ubuntu Linux 13.04 (64-bit).

  • Clients (computer) must be joined with the Southern Miss Active Directory.

 

Back-up Schedule

The computer is backed up every 4 hours.  If a machine misses the scheduled back up by being turned off or offline, it will be backed up when the machine is turned back on or returns online.

 

Data Retention
If you delete a file from your desktop, you can restore it for up to 30 days before the file is no longer available.

 

Files Eligible for Back-up

On a Windows machine, all files in the Desktop and Documents folders are backed up by default, along with all email, Microsoft Office templates, Internet Explorer favorites, and system settings.  Additional folder locations can be added through the back-up client. For Mac computers, all files in the Desktop and Documents folders are backed up by default, along with all email and system settings.  Additional folder locations can be added through the back-up client.  For Linux computers, all files in the Desktop folder along with all email are backed up by default.  Additional folder locations can be added through the back-up client.

 

Restoring Files

Users will be able to restore a file from the workstation back-up through the back-up client on their computer or mobile device, through the website, or through the assistance of the Help Desk.

Eligibility

All active university employees are eligible.

 

To request service

To request Eagle Back-up, fill out the Eagle Back-up Request form.

After completing the form, you will be notified by email when your account is active. The email will have instructions for dowloading and installing the client. You can also find installation instructions here. Do not install the software until after you have received the confirmation email.

To request changes to existing Eagle Backup Service (increase quota, decrease quota or account delete), please fill out the Eagle Back-up Change Request Form.

 

Availability

Files are available 24/7, except for scheduled maintenance periods.
