Eagle Back-up

Service Description

In The University Technology & Data Center (UTDC), we offer workstation back-up, also known as "Eagle Back-up," for all faculty and staff.


Services Offered

Computer/Client Eligibility

  • Computers must be property of The University of Southern Mississippi.
  • Clients (computer) must be running Microsoft Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 or Mac OS X 10.6 or greater.
  • Clients (computer) must be joined with the Southern Miss Active Directory.


Back-up Schedule
The computer is backed up when the machine is left idle. After a minute, any files that have been added or changed will be backed up. Note: Mac computers are only backed up once every 24 hours.


Data Retention
If you delete a file from your desktop, you can restore it for up to 30 days before the file is no longer available.


Files Eligible for Back Up
Files and folders saved to the user’s desktop, as well as My Documents (Windows XP) or Documents (Windows 7, including photos folders) will be backed up. For Mac computers, Desktop, Documents and Pictures are eligible for back-up. Certain file types are excluded from being backed up, including music and video files. If you have a need to have music and video files backed up, you may “opt in” to have a less restrictive backup policy.


Restoring Files
Users will be able to restore a file from the workstation back-up.



All active university employees are eligible.

Files are available 24/7, except for scheduled maintenance periods.
