Process for Requesting VPN (Virtual Private Network) Access
Call the Help Desk and enter a HEAT ticket requesting VPN access. Be prepared to give the Help Desk person your Employee ID number and Department.
Once the ticket is entered it will be forwarded to the iTech Systems team to be added to the correct access group. This is based on your department.
Once this has been completed the ticket is forwarded to the Security team. A member of the team will call and arrange to audit your system and load the VPN client application. The audit is to verify that your system meets the VPN policy requirements as follows:
- Southern Miss registed equipment
- System is set to automatically download and install the latest security patches
- System is patched correctly
- Anti-virus application is loaded and running on the system
- Anti-virus application is set to automatically download and install the latest definition files
The security team member will also explain how to use the VPN client to gain access to the Southern Miss network from outside the campus.
