Service Description
A listserv, or list server, is a small program that automatically sends messages to multiple e-mail addresses on a mailing list.
Services Offered
Anyone can utilize a list serve in conjunction with a Web site to send messages to a target audience.
List servs have many different uses, such as:
- Inter-departmental communications
- Intra-departmental communications
- Mailing addresses for departments
- Student organization discussions
- Conference discussions and planning
- Research projects
- Community service announcements
- Special projects
- Class discussions
- Special interest discussions
The Mailman listservs are best suited for small to mid-sized audiences with a specific interest or as contact information for a department or organization.
Eligibility
Any full-time faculty or staff member at Southern Miss may request a listserv. If anyone requests a listserv for a student organization, please contact the faculty/staff advisor.
To request service
To request a listserv, go to the Listserv Request Form.
It normally takes 2-3 days for a listserv to be created.
The owner will be contacted by e-mail or phone indicating the listserv has been created or to clarify any questions about the request. Once the listserv is created, the owner may call the Help Desk at 601.266.HELP (4357) to receive the password for the completed listserv.
