Objectives
The University of Southern Mississippi campus network serves over 17,000 faculty, staff, students, and visitors. The 21st century vision for education and research has challenged us to upgrade the network. We decided to forego traditional switched networking in order to leverage carrier class technology that virtualizes the network. As one of the first academic institution to utilize MPLS VPNs, we created a state of the art network with 802.1x, guest wireless, centralized firewalls, and enterprise storage.

The new network brings greater uptime, reliability and functionality to the students, faculty and staff at Southern Miss. As network resources become an increasingly integral part of the University's educational mission and its daily operation, it is essential that the network remain highly available. This solution will provide the Southern Miss community with around-the-clock stability and reliability.
