When a department or organization wishes to make a presence on the Internet, the first step is to have space to install their site. The University of Southern Mississippi provides this space in the form of an account on the University Web server (www.usm.edu). This account consists of a username, a password, an e-mail account and space for Web documents.
Access to the university Web accounts on the www.usm.edu domain is restricted to The University of Southern Mississippi departments and organizations. Personal Web space for students, staff and faculty is available through the general e-mail server. Students, faculty and staff who want to set up personal Web space should contact the Help Desk at 601.266.HELP (4357) to get their Ocean password.
All university departments and organizations are eligible for a Web account. Student organizations should work through their student advisor to request an account or make changes to their existing account.
