The Katrina Research Center Hosts Lori K. Gordon's "Katrina Collection: Rebirth & Renewal"

Lori Gordon Art Piece

The Katrina Research Center is now hosting the work of Bay St. Louis artist Lori K. Gordon, whose exhibit, The Katrina Collection, is on display at the Center through July.

As a mixed media artist, Gordon first attracted national attention with her quilt “Labat: A Creole Legacy,” which tells the story of long-time Bay St. Louis resident Celestine Labat who died in 2002 at the age of 104. The quilt was acquired by the Smithsonian Institution for their permanent collection.

The KRC is still gathering eye witness accounts, photos, relics, books, videotapes, DVDs, CDs and other materials related to Hurricane Katrina and its impact on the state of Mississippi. If you have something that you would like to donate to the KRC, contact our librarian at 228.214.3416 or e-mail krc@usm.edu. You can also click here if you are a Southern Miss faculty member who has published work related to Hurricane Kartina and would like to have it become part of the KRC Collection.
