The Bailey Collection
![]() |
Now showing at the Katrina Research Center gallery now through December 4 is the fascinating private collection of Japanese woodblock prints collected by Mr. Joseph W. Bailey of Hattiesburg, Miss. The Bailey Collection includes dozens of classic ukiyo-e prints, a style which depicts everyday Japanese life. Mr. Bailey bought his first two prints more than 30 years ago, for his personal pleasure, not as a financial investment. He has continued to deepen and develop his collection ever since. Including traditional and modern examples of the woodblock art form, the collection includes prints by such famous artists as Hiroshige, Kunisada, Kuniyoshi, Yoshiiku and Paul Jacoulet. For more information about Japanese Woodblock Prints and the ukiyo-e form, visit the Met Museum's site on the subject. |
