Southern Miss Doctoral Students Conducting Research in Australia
University of Southern Mississippi doctoral students Dave Krzeminski and Nadine Lippa have been awarded an international research fellowship and currently are collaborating with researchers in Australia. They are two of the 235 selected recipients from more than 4,000 applicants around the world. Only 15 Americans were selected for the Endeavour Research Fellowship program, an international, merit-based scholarship provided by the Australian government. [Read More]

College of Health Ambassador, Karolyne Rehner, presents Mr. Jerry Purvis, instructor at the School of Human Performance and Recreation, with the Faculty of the Month Award for October.
Throughout the academic year, the College of Health Ambassadors selects one faculty member from each College of Health school or department to be named Faculty of the Month. The faculty members are chosen based on their willingness to help, approachability, and dedication to their students and academic unit.

Southern Miss Students, Faculty Honored at MRPA Conference in Tupelo
Students and faculty members from Therapeutic Recreation and Recreation Administration received multiple honors at the Mississippi Recreation and Park Association’s annual conference held recently in Tupelo, Miss. Twenty-five therapeutic recreation majors and three faculty members attended the conference.
Three seniors majoring in therapeutic recreation received the following honors:
- Jamie (Missy) Arrant was selected to serve as Student Representative to the Board of Directors.
- Lindsay Davis was awarded the Convention Scholarship.
- Karolyne Rehner received the Student Scholarship Award.
Dr. Mary Ann Aquadro was elected to serve as President of the Mississippi Therapeutic Recreation Alliance and Megan Marlowe was elected to serve as President-Elect. [Read More]
Athletic Training Program Welcomes Class of 2015
The Athletic Training Program in The University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Human Performance and Recreation has admitted its first class of students since 2010. With a new administration and revised curriculum, students will benefit from a new outlook and direction for the program.

Kinesiotherapy Awareness Week: "We Keep You Moving"
The Kinesiotherapy Club celebrated Kinesiotherapy Awareness Week (Sept. 9-13) with, “We Keep You Moving,” an event designed to teach students more about the profession.
"It was a great opportunity for people to learn how to properly use walking aids and also a chance for kinesiotherapy student to get hands-on experience of teaching someone how to use them,” said Taylor Brown, sophomore Kinesiotherapy major and Club member.

USM Senior Receives Award for Best Honor's Thesis from College of Health
Tyler Edwards, a graduate of the School of Human Performance and Recreation’s Therapeutic Recreation program, received the Best Honor’s Thesis from the College of Health Award for his thesis titled “Dive into the Pit: Moshing and its effects on Perceived Stress, Sense of Belonging, and Self-Esteem in College Undergraduates.” His academic and thesis advisor was Dr. Rick Green.
“Research awards give scholars like Tyler substantial recognition for a job well done,” said Dr. David R. Davies, professor and dean of the Honors College. “The honor highlights Tyler's quality work and offers encouragement for him to tackle future academic challenges in graduate school.”
HPR Students Receive Comcast Scholarships
Two of the seven students to receive the 2013 Comcast scholarships were from the School of Human Performance and Recreation.
Keriaus McBride of Hattiesburg, Miss., a senior in Kinesiotherapy, was awarded the Physical Plant Scholarship.
Kewin Nielsen of Denmark, a sophomore in Exercise Science, was awarded the Residence Life Scholarship. [Read More]

Southern Miss Rec Sports honored outstanding student staff and graduating seniors at the Student Staff Appreciation and Awards Night. Student staff members recognized from HPR:
- Mark Schimmel, a senior in Sport Management was awarded the Bruce and Virginia Wilgus “Making a Difference.”
- Calvin Taylor, a senior majoring in Sports Management was awarded the Keith’s Superstores Scholarship.
- Kewin Nielsen, a sophomore majoring in Exercise Science, was awarded the James A. Townley Award
- Joanna, Rochelle, a junior majoring in Human Performance – Kinesiotherapy, was awarded the Steve “Big Daddy” Rey Intramural Sports Supervisor Employee of the Year

PhD Student Attends ACSM Annual Meeting
Nadine Lippa, a doctoral student in the Sports and High Performance Materials program, presented her poster at the 60th ACSM Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, Ind. on May 30. Her poster, Reliability Estimates for Three Methods of Determining sEMG Onset, was well received by attendees.
Southern Miss Senior from Mandeville Receives Scholar-Athlete Award
