On Friday, August 15 and Monday, August 18, 2014, The Office of the Provost and the Learning Enhancement Center at The University of Southern Mississippi hosted New Faculty Orientation at the Trent Lott Center on the Hattiesburg campus. Faculty members from the Hattiesburg and Gulf Park campuses attended the event, and were welcomed by Dr. Denis Wiesenburg, Provost. Throughout the event, the attendees learned Southern Miss processes and procedures.
“This was a great opportunity for our new faculty members,” said Sheri Rawls, Director of the Learning Enhancement Center. “Not only did these faculty members have the chance to learn more about the environment at Southern Miss, but they were able to establish new relationships among each other and the comaraderie we saw was phenomenal.”
A number of campus entities represented throughout the two-day event, and had an opportunity to present information about their departments to the attendees. Information ranged from teaching online to taking advantage of campus resources like the Think Center, located in the International Center. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in other informational events through the Faculty First Year Experience series of seminars. These events are designed for new faculty to become familiar with university processes, and will provide information that contributes to overall professional development and success.
