Alternative Learning Fees
The Office of Distance Education & Alternative Learning was approved to assess a $10 per student credit hour fee beginning in Summer 2006. This fee will be assessed to the following types of courses:
- Fully online courses
- Courses utilizing Blackboard as a supplement to their traditional courses
- Travel-study courses
- On campus intensive courses
- Mini Session courses
- IVN courses (receive sites only)
- Independent Study courses
- Extension courses (courses taught in traditional manner off main campuses at approved sites)
Benefits of a Blackboard supplement include:
- Assignment tool
- Gradebook tool
- Ability to post readings and syllabi (eliminating the need to copy and distribute materials; eliminates problems with losing materials)
- Ability to easily post URLs and other electronic resources
Chat, email and threaded discussions, all in a single place (and archived) - Secure environment to post student grades and other confidential student information (which are not allowed to be posted on public websites)
- Archived backup of course providing permanent record of course communication, grading, correspondence, assignments, etc.
- Anywhere, Anytime access for students and faculty
