Title III-A Strengthening the Institution Grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education

The University of Southern Mississippi’s Title III-A Strengthening of Institution grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Education in October 2001 for the amount of $1.78 million over a five-year period. The grant was awarded to support the implementation of the institution’s strategic plan for the integration of instructional technology into its teaching and learning environment. The strategic plan was developed from data gathered through a faculty technology survey administered in 2001. Survey outcomes reflected two major findings: (1) faculty identified that one of the major barriers to their active use of technology in the classroom was that the equipment was not available, and (2) faculty needed development and training opportunities to enable them to incorporate technology into the curricula. Consequently, acquisition of instructional technology and faculty enhancement became the focus of the University’s instructional technology strategic plan.
