Title III-A Grant Accomplishments
Activity 1: Purchase of Equipment to Improve Academic Programs
Areas of accomplishment:
- Equipment was purchased (using a combination of Title III-A and University funds) for the following:
- 21 laptop/desktop units for Technology Faculty Mentors (funded by the University)
- 26 Highly Visible Undergraduate Classrooms (HVUC) (see Appendix A for equipment and distribution details)
- The Learning Enhancement Center (LEC) received a Smart Lectern/ Sympodium, desktop computer, DVD/VHS unit, audio sound system, visual presenter and data projector and screen.
- The LEC also received:
- 4 Dell desktop computers for the training workstations
- 2 I-Mac Apple computers for the training workstations
- 2 scanners
- 1 digital camera
- 2 inkjet printers
- 20 internal Dell notebook zip drives to augment the MobiLan One wireless cart w/ 20 notebook computers housed in and used by the center (Cart & laptops not paid for by Title III-A)
- 1 large SmartBoard
- 1 Dell laptop computer for the Training Specialist
- 1 I-Mac G-4 Apple computer for the Coordinator.
- 2 laser Hewlett-Packard laser printers: 8500N color laser printer and a 8000N laser printer (both donated to the LEC)
- Equipment Services Loaner Pool received:
- 2 DVD/VHS combo units
- 2 data projectors
- 2 small portable SmartBoards
- 1 Ibook Apple laptop computer
- Activity I director (Joel Holder) attended INFOCOMM tradeshow in 2001-02 and 2002-03 to keep current with instructional technology related equipment.
Activity II: Faculty Professional Development
Areas of accomplishment:
- A total of 12 faculty (13 trips) and 9 (18 trips) staff received funding to support their travel to an instructional technology related conference. The numbers exceeded the grants goal of funding travel for 2 faculty and 2 staff per year (See Appendix B for more detail).
- Approximately 300 faculty, staff and students were exposed to the latest instructional technologies through Technology Tea, a trade exhibit for instructional technology equipment sponsored by ten vendors.
- 19 faculty received a $2,500 stipend, and 2 faculty shared a $2,500 stipend to support their instructional technology related projects
- 21 faculty were awarded $500 stipends to attend a 40-hour “Putting Your Course Online” or PYCO workshop with the expectation that they will develop either a course supplement or a fully online course by the following semester. $250 was immediately awarded to each, and the remaining $250 upon completion of the requirements.
- A total of 10 online courses were implemented since the beginning of the Title III-A funding cycle. (See Appendix C for more detail)
- While figures for calendar year 2002 are not available, 2003 year-to-date figures show a total of 656 faculty, 617 staff, 60 undergraduate and 172 graduate students were trained in 817 contact methods including workshops, one-on-one sessions, drop ins, and help sessions in software including, but not limited to: Blackboard, DreamWeaver, Access, Excel, Netscape Composer, Microsoft Office Suite.
- The first four HVUC classrooms were available in summer 2003, and used by 18 trained faculty members, for a total of 37 courses attended by 756 students. Training is still ongoing, and to date, 212 faculty contacts, 77 staff contacts, 1 undergraduate contact, 16 graduate contacts and 6 other contacts for a total of 312 contacts. All 26 rooms have been installed and are either released for use or are being tested prior to release for use.
