Interactive Video Network (IVN)

The primary purpose of the Southern Miss Interactive Video Network is to share academic courses between the Hattiesburg campus and regional Southern Miss campuses. In this way, the University increases the availability of programs and faculty that were previously available to only one campus. When time slots are available during academic hours this service can be used for non-academic courses, meetings, conferences, workshops, and training. This service is available to faculty, staff, and students of the University as well as public and private clients.

Services

The Southern Miss Interactive Video Network, numbering five classrooms across four campuses, is a member of the Mississippi Interactive Video Network. As a member of MIVN we can connect to nearly 200 educational sites statewide. If you need to conference with sites outside of Mississippi, we can connect with them using IP connection. Videoconferencing enables you to see, hear, speak, as well as share documents and other information with students, customers, suppliers, business associates, or employees in various locations in a real-time meeting environment. A typical classroom contains three TV monitors, and one large multimedia screen. On three monitors you see the remote site. On the multimedia screen you can see local or remote site. All rooms are equipped with one DVD/VHS combo unit for taping or playback, document camera for sharing “hard copy” documents with the remote site(s), and a computer to display PowerPoint Presentations or Internet on the monitor. Our Polycom videoconferencing systems are standards based. We can connect utilizing H.323 protocols. Each unit is capable of handling calls up to 384k. Our current facilities include five classrooms at the following locations.
