On Friday, April 26, 2013 the Office of the Provost sponsored a discussion on pre-tenure review, promotion, and tenure. All first-year faculty and those who plan to submit dossiers for promotion or tenure in the next few years were invited. Dr. Tom O’Brien facilitated the discussion between attendees and our expert panel, which consisted of Dr. Denis Wiesenburg, Provost, Office of the Provost, Mike Forster, Dean and Professor, College of Health, Dr. Kim LeDuff, Acting Director and Associate Professor, School of Mass Communication and Journalism, Dr. John Bishop, Assistant Professor, Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education. “The Planning for Pre-Tenure Review, Promotion, and Tenure workshop was an excellent opportunity for faculty on the tenure track to ask questions and interact with the Provost and faculty who have gone through the process,” said Dr. Kim LeDuff. “It is not only beneficial to new faculty, but also those approaching promotion from associate to full professor.” The panel shared their experiences, tips, and dos and don’ts regarding pre-tenure review, promotion and tenure. “This was an insightful and outstanding session,” said attendee Dr. Daniel Eadens, Assistant Professor, Education Leadership and School Counseling. “When else would we pre-tenured faculty have a chance to talk and ask questions with such an informed panel including the Provost, senior full professors, and associate professors that were newly tenured and promoted. The questions were helpful, especially as we ourselves move towards the tenure and promotion process.”
