Rubrics
A rubric is a scoring scale used to assess student performance along a task-specific set of criteria. The two main components of a good rubric are criteria and level of performance. Rubrics are used to evaluate student performance in complex and vague areas such as oral presentations, papers, portfolios, etc. They are similar to checklists with one difference. Checklists do not measure quality. Checklists are used to determine if the required criteria are present. A rubric lists a set of criteria, but also includes the degree to which each criterion is met or not met. The links below will take you to several rubric resources. Some of the links include databases of different types of rubrics. They are only examples, but can be modified to fit your specific situation.
