Amy Thornton

Amy earned a B.S. in Computer Science from Southern Miss, after moving here from Grand Prairie, Texas. She earned her M.S. in Instructional Technology in 2008 and completed her Certified Training Professional credentials through the Workforce Learning and Performance Institute in 2009. She began working full-time at Southern Miss in July of 2003 and joined the staff of the LEC in November of 2006, where she supports faculty with distance learning, instructional design, and research assistance as an Instructional Technologist.

Amy has held positions in several other departments on campus including the School of Library and Information Science and University Libraries. She has served on the University Staff Council as the Webmaster and Chair of the Technology & Training Committee, on the Web Committee, and as President of the Instructional Technology Student Association. Currently Amy serves as President of the Hattiesburg American Society for Training & Development group and is an active representative on the Wimba Product Advisory Board.

Amy is a national and chapter member of the American Society for Training & Development and a member of the Mississippi Wimba User's Group. Professional presentations have included sessions at Creating Futures Through Technology and the Wimba Connect conferences. Her research interests include assessing the appropriate use of technology in the classroom to improve student learning outcomes, universal design of technology, and the evaluation and accommodation of different learning styles through the use of technology.
