Podcasting Training http://www.usm.edu/lec/workshops Untitled document

Podcasting/Vodcasting is the distribution of audio and video files across a network with the purpose of subscription by the end user. Podcasts are subscribed to via a RSS feed that allows the user to receive new episodes of podcast each time they are added.  Participants are asked to bring their own laptop to allow the facilitators to assist participants in making sure their laptop is set up appropriately for using podcasting.  If a participant is unable to bring their own laptop, one will be provided to use for the training.

This 2 hour hands-on training will focus on:

  • Podcasting terminology
  • Accessibility requirements
  • Southern Miss podcasting policy
  • Podcasting tips & best practices
  • Podcasting server application
  • Subscribing to podcasts
  • Resources for the creation of audio and video files

If desired, at the conclusion of the session, attendees may schedule a 1 on 1 training session to get additional assistance.

Wimba Classroom Training http://www.usm.edu/lec/workshops Untitled document

Wimba Live Classroom is a fully featured live virtual classroom that supports audio, video, application sharing, and content display. It enables instructors to add important elements of interaction that cannot be provided in a standard text-based online course. You can personalize your online courses by holding live, online classes, office hours, guest lectures, webcasts, and meetings.  Participants are asked to bring their own laptop to allow the facilitators to assist participants in making sure their laptop is set up appropriately for using Wimba Classroom.  If a participant is unable to bring their own laptop, one will be provided to use for the training.

This training session will introduce the use of Wimba Classroom as a tool within Blackboard.

Participants will be shown:

  • The Live Classroom setup wizard
  • Creation of a live classroom
  • Navigation inside live classroom
  • Use of audio in the live classroom
  • Uploading of a PowerPoint into the live classroom
  • User management

If time allows, attendees will also be shown:

  • How to manage content inside the Live Classroom
  • How to conduct polls
  • Application sharing
  • Use of the E-board (interactive whiteboard)
  • Use of video
  • Exploring best practices for using Live Classroom

No experience is required to attend this workshop, although experience using Blackboard is helpful.  If desired, at the conclusion of the session, attendees may schedule a 1 on 1 training session to get additional assistance.
