This hands-on class will use SPSS for Win and will include brief introductions to the following topics:

• t-tests and ANOVAs• correlations• multiple regression• General Linear Model

Prerequisite: SPSS 1, comparable experience using SPSS, or permission from instructor.

SPSS 1: Data Entry and TransformationsThis introductory class will be hands-on using SPSS for Windows and will include the following topics:• coding and entering data• cleaning data by finding and correcting data errors and outliers• transforming or scoring results• examining reliability• providing descriptive results of data

Prerequisite: Basic Windows experience and basic mouse skills required.

Faculty First Year: Planning for Third Year Review, Promotion, and Tenure

Promotion is based on achievements to date and tenure is given based on perceived promise for the future. With this in mind, faculty will learn how to best prepare for a successful third year review as well as tenure and promotion. Teaching, research, service, and collegiality will all be discussed. Presenters will include University administration, deans, and faculty.

Gulf Coast supervisors will have the opportunity to ask clarification questions regarding the employee “social media use” tutorial to be launched campus wide in early March. Stennis and GCRL supervisors may participate via IVN for the 3/1/12 seminar.

Annual Provost Seminar

"Legal Parameters of the Professoriate." Attorneys from IHL general counsel office will review best practices for non-supervisory faculty, as they relate to a variety of issues, including: duty to report; academic advising; classroom management; and student privacy rights. Final hour of the seminar will provide an open Q&A opportunity with interim provost Dr. Denis Wiesenburg. Live video streaming to GCRL, Stennis & Gulf Park will be available (specific locations TBA closer to seminar date).
