Joy Garretson presented a poster, "How Friendly Is Your Homepage? An Analysis of 14 Mississippi Library System Web Sites." Based on a paper completed in LIS651: Introduction to Information Science, Fall 2012.  Presented at the USM Student Research Colloquium, Trent Lott Center, April 25, 2013.

Hillary Richardson received a grant to attend the North American Serials Interest Group (NASIG) conference in Buffalo, NY, June 6-9.

Lynndy Hurdle was awarded a $1,000 grant from YALSA/Dollar General Literacy Foundation for a summer reading program at Strayhorn High School Library, Sarah, Miss.

SLIS students Phillip Carter, Preston Salisbury, Cole Smith, and Callie Wiygul were awarded a grant from Southern Miss Student Archivists for registration and travel to the Preservation of Books and Archival Materials workshop in Jackson, MS, January 31.


National Internships

Kate Brunelle is currently completing an internship at the Holocaust Museum, Washington, D.C. Read more about Brunelle's Internship

Liliana Debarbieri was awarded a 2013 summer archival internship with the National Park Service Western Archeological and Conservation Center in Tucson, AZ.

Callie Wiygul was awarded a 2013 summer archival internship at the Smithsonian Archives of American Art in Washington, D.C.



Brianna Barnard, who graduated in December with MLIS and is working toward a Graduate Certificate in Archives and Special Collections is one of 5 finalists in Society of American Archivists, “I Found It in the Archives” contest. Read more about Barnard's award and be sure to vote for Brianna Barnard.

At USM College of Education & Psychology Awards Day, March 27, Lori Clendenning (LIS BA 2012) received the Anna M. Roberts Award for Scholarship, Service and Professionalism; Christine Hiller (MLIS 2012) was awarded the Warren Tracy Award for Professionalism, Scholarship, and Service.
