This event is for adventuresome teachers!
Participants are chosen from applications submitted by school teachers only. The purpose of this program is to study, in-depth, the writings and art of Mississippi artist Walter Ingles Anderson. Lessons in pottery, watercolor, and wilderness camping are provided in a 4-day workshop. The study culminates with a 3-night, 4-day wilderness camping trip to Horn Island, one of the barrier islands that separates the Mississippi Sound from the Gulf of Mexico. Participants are expected to take lessons learned from their experiences back into their classrooms. They are required to complete a writing component, sharing how their Journey to Horn Island impacted their classroom instruction.
The group for the summer of 2011 will be selected by the first of July.
