Staff Development/Inservice

Every writing project site affiliated with National Writing Project is charged with the responsibility of sharing latest research on the teaching and use of writing through the sale of Staff Development/Inservice programs.

Staff Development provided by LOWP differs from other programs in three important ways. First, it is reasonably priced. Second, it is provided by teachers from Mississippi classrooms--presenters who are familiar with state mandates and the local educational environment. Third, programs are designed with multiple sessions over at least a school year. Research has proven that effective change must be supported by meaningful interaction with the source of that change.

Live Oak has developed several Staff Development series, some of which specifically address the new state assessments. LOWP will also work with schools to create programs to meet specific needs. Programs are strategy-based and go across disciplines and grade levels.

Money from the sale of Staff Development goes back into the work of the site to develop programs and provide support for teacher consultants in areas of continuity, research, and personal professional development and to fund our work in family literacy.

“'Teachers teaching teachers'—what better experience could be offered.  Learning from teachers with writing skills to be shared is the best education."
