Robert A. Burt II, P.E. - Bio
A Kemper County native, the 1991 Graduate of Northeast Lauderdale High School attended Mississippi State University and received a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering in December 1995. He began working with the Mississippi Department of Transportation in January of 1996 as an Engineer-in-Training. He became a Registered Professional Engineer in January of 2001.
After a twelve year career in transportation planning, Mr. Burt was promoted to Deputy Director of MDOT’s Freight, Rails, Ports and Waterways Division in November 2007. Mr. Burt was promoted to Director of MDOT’s Freight, Rails, Ports and Waterways Division in June 2008.
Mr. Burt is a member of AASHTO’s Standing Committee’s on Water Transportation and the Standing Committee on Rail Transportation and serves as chairman of the Center for Logistics Trade and Transportation Studies at the University of Southern Mississippi. Mr. Burt has served on the Mississippi Operation Lifesaver Board of Directors and was a member of the Mississippi Railway Safety Taskforce.
He has been married 15 years to the former Stacy Jones of Meridian, MS. They have two sons, Robert age 13, and William, age 9.
