Community Service

Volunteers on MLK DayA major component of the Luckyday Citizenship Scholars Program is service.  One factor evaluated when high school students are applying for the program is their community involvement.  Once selected as a Luckyday Scholar, students are asked to volunteer at least 20 hours each semester beginning in the spring of their freshman year.

Volunteers at Hawkins ElementaryStudents are encouraged to pick one agency in which to focus their volunteer efforts, so they can develop relationships with the people they are volunteering with and the people they are serving. However, we do understand that there are many one-time events and service projects with which students may want to volunteer. We have the 15/5 exception, meaning students may count 15 of their semester volunteer hours towards one agency and only 5 towards special events and other volunteer endeavors.

We the volunteer website NobleHour for all things service-related.  Service agencies can create profiles in this online volunteer management system and post upcoming opportunities for service.  Students can browse agencies and opportunities and choose what is most interesting to them.  Students also log their hours in NobleHour.
