Below are directions to get you to our departmental offices from various locations.  To view a regional map, see our location page.

A) To get to Stennis Space Center from New Orleans International Airport:

New Orleans International Airport is about 50 miles (an hour's drive in light traffic) from the space center.  Follow airport signs to Interstate 10, East (I-10).   Take I-10 for ~7 miles until you reach the I-10/I-610 split.  Take I-610 towards Slidell.  After ~5 miles I-610 joins back with I-10, East.  After ~20 miles I-10 will cross Lake Pontchartrain and in another 15 miles I-10 crosses into Mississippi on a high-rise bridge over the Pearl River.  At this point you should begin seeing signs for the Stennis Space Center.  Take the first Mississippi exit (labeled Exit 2) from I-10 -- this is Hwy 607.  Go left on Hwy 607; the space center is 2 miles ahead.  See below for information on entry to the space center from the South Gate.

B) To get to Stennis Space Center from the Gulfport/Biloxi Regional Airport:

Gulfport/Biloxi Regional Airport is about 30 miles from the space center.  Go west on Airport Rd. ~1 mile to US Hwy 49.  Turn right on US 49 and go north for ~1 mile to Interstate 10.  Take I-10 west ~30 miles to Hwy 607 (Exit 2; you should see signs for the space center before the exit).  Go right on Hwy 607; the space center is 2 miles ahead.  See below for information on entry to the space center from the South Gate.

C) To get to Stennis Space Center from Hattiesburg:

It's about 75 miles from the USM main campus in Hattiesburg to the space center.  From Hattiesburg drive south on I-59 and exit at exit number 1 at Nicholson (you should see signs for the space center before the exit).  Go left on Hwy 607 for ~7 miles to the space center.  See below for information on entry to the space center from the North Gate.

Entry to Stennis Space Center: SSC is a secure government facility (the level of security varies with national security concerns -- foreign visitors need to be approved for entrance in advance and need to be escorted).  As you approach either the North or South Gate you will see a guardhouse in the middle of the road and a white building with parking lot to the right of the road.  During normal business hours, stop at the white building and tell the person at the desk who you wish to visit.  If arrangements have been made in advance, there should already be a visitor's pass ready for you; otherwise, the reception center will have to call our offices to verify that we are expecting you.  After normal business hours, you will have to stop at the guardhouse to obtain entry.

From North or South Gates to Department of Marine Science offices in Building 1020:

From the South Gate follow the main road ("Trent Lott Parkway") one (1) mile to the second traffic light.  Turn right onto Road J and follow it as it curves to the left and becomes Balch Blvd. As you approach the stop sign at the intersection of Balch Blvd and Saturn Road you will see the Visitors' Center on your left and Building 1020 on your right.

From the North Gate follow the main road ("Trent Lott Parkway") two (2) miles to the first traffic light (there's a water tower at the right of this intersection).  Turn left onto Saturn Road.  In 1/2 mile you'll see the Visitors' Center on your right.  Just past the Visitors' Center and the intersection of Saturn & Balch Blvd. is Bldg. 1020.
