Students
will choose from one (for Option I) or two (for
Option II) elective courses. In addition to
the elective courses listed here, some additional
Marine Science (MAR) courses or other USM graduate
courses may be used for students selecting Option
II. Courses not listed here would require approval
from the student's advisory committee and the
Chair of the Department of Marine Science to
be used for the degree.

611 (3 hrs) Remote Sensing
for Hydrographers
Coastline delineation, ice mapping, water-surface
mapping, bathymetric remote sensing, and water
column properties. Prerequisite:
permission of instructor.

6xx (3 hrs) Offshore Seismic
Surveying* Geomagnetic surveys, gravity surveys, seismic
surveys, digital seismic data acquisition and
processing, and analog equipment.

Science for Coastal Zone Management* Surveys for dredging operations, hydraulic
surveys, surveys for pollution monitoring, channel
marking, controlling sedimentation, warnings,
and publications.
