Hydrographic Science Graduates Accept Degrees July 28 in a Recognition Ceremony
2005 Hydrographic Science Graduation

Ten hydrographic science graduates accepted their degrees on the July 28, 2005 in the Auditorium of Building 1200 at Stennis Space Center. The ceremony had remarks from Dr. Grimes the Provost of the University and Capt. Martinek, Technical Director for the U.S. Naval Oceanograpic Office.

Southern Miss Marine Scientists Present Research
at International Ocean Research Conference in Paris

Marine Sciene Student in ParisOne professor and three students from The University of Southern Mississippi's Department of Marine Science presented research at the international Ocean Research Conference in Paris France June 6-10.

Vanessa Wright , Southern Miss masters candidate in biological oceanography (seen in photo), was one of the three presenters from the department.

 

Southern Miss Hydrographic Science Graduates Receive Commendation from U.S. Navy for 'Outstanding Performance'
in Operation Iraqi Freedom

Hydrography Graduates in IraqFour graduates of The University of Southern Mississippi's Hydrographic Science Program were among those recently honored by the United States Navy for outstanding performance in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom during a recent hydrographic survey in Iraq.

Lt. Cmdr. Anthony Gilless, Lt. Richard “Kitch” Kennedy Jr., and Giovanni Morris, graduates of the Southern Miss class of 2003, and Glen Carson, graduate of the Southern Miss class of 2002, recently joined other volunteers from the U. S. Naval Oceanographic Office on board the USNS Henson to complete a detailed hydrographic survey of the Khawr Abd Allah and Khawr Az Zubayr waterways and the ports Umm Qasr and Az Zubayr in Iraq.
