Mathematics Concentration for Elementary Education Majors.
To earn a mathematics concentration, elementary education majors must take 21 hours of math courses. We recommend that these students be required to take the following courses:
- MAT 101 (College Algebra) or MAT 101E (Explorations in College Algebra)
- MAT 210 (Mathematics for Elementary Teachers I)
- MAT 309 (Mathematics for Elementary Teachers II)
- MAT 310 (Mathematics for Elementary Teachers III)
- MAT 410 (Junior High – currently this course is being revised)
and that the other two courses be chosen from among these:
- MAT 103 (Trigonometry) or MAT 128 (Pre-Calculus), but not both.
- MAT 167 (Calculus I)
- MAT 481 (History of Mathematics – reasoning and proof are embedded in this course)
- MAT 168 (Calculus II)
- MAT 340 (Discrete Mathematics)
