Undergraduate
Program Specific Degree Requirements
Below are
given, by year, the courses you must take in order to
obtain the B.S. degree in mathematics. In the case of
the nonteaching degree, students must spend a portion
of their elective hours to earn a minor or to earn a
second major. In order to graduate, you must have a GPA
of at least 2.0 (out of 4.0) overall, in your minor,
and in all mathematics
courses taken at Southern Miss. Grades received in courses taken at other institutions
are not included when calculating your GPA in
these three areas.
In addition, you must complete at least 45 semester
hours of upper division (i.e., 300-400 level)
courses and one advanced mathematics sequence.
Only mathematics and computer science courses
in which you earn grades of "C" or better
will count toward meeting the program requirements of
the major. Each
student must file an Application for Degree. You must
request an Application for Degree two weeks ahead of
the deadline printed in the Undergraduate Bulletin
(shortly after midterm of the semester previous to your
anticipated graduation). To do this, you must fill out a request form
in Undergraduate Academic Services and Preprofessional
Programs of the College of Science and Technology
(TEC 105). Prior
to this, you should have arranged to have all necessary
course substitutions done. Undergraduate Academic Services
will generate an official Application for Degree and
provide you with further instructions.
