The Program

The U.S. Department of Education awards The Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program grants to institutions of higher education for projects designed to prepare participants for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities.  Through the funding of an $881,708 grant awarded over four years (October 2003 - September 2007), the University of Southern Mississippi strives to provide support for eligible undergraduate students in preparation for admission into graduate programs.
McNair participants are from disadvantaged backgrounds and have demonstrated strong academic potential. Institutions work closely with these participants through their undergraduate requirements, encourage their entrance into graduate programs, and track their progress to successful completion of advanced degrees.
