and Voluntary Hospitals of America, Inc.
FUNDING: Owned by city
of Gulfport and Harrison County Hospital District
SERVICES: A regional
medical center providing comprehensive services for cancer diagnosis
and treatment, cardiovascular conditions, and physical rehabilitation;
neonatal, medical and surgical intensive care; orthopedic, pediatric,
geriatric, maternity, and psychiatric services; laser surgery, hyperbaric
medicine, renal lithotripsy and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Memorial has recently launched several community health initiatives:
four school clinics with full-time nursing care and coverage by
rotating physicians; a mobile immunization van offering childhood
immunizations and adult vaccines; full-time occupational health
and athletic health programs, and two outlying urgent care clinics.
The Pathology Laboratory/Blood
Bank is located on the first floor, west wing, of the hospital,
in approximately 8,000 square feet of space. Sections include: Chemistry,
Immunohematology, Special Chemistry, Hematology-Coagulation, Urinalysis-Immunology,
Microbiology, Cytology, and Histology/Anatomical Pathology. The
department offers a broad range of tests to assist physicians with
making rapid and accurate diagnoses. The Pathology Laboratory/Blood
Bank follows guidelines of the College of American Pathologists
(CAP), the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), and the Joint
Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
It functions 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
