History

In 1931, Jackson County needed a hospital. With the vigorous support of community leaders and the help of Jackson County's physicians, the first community-owned and operated hospital in Mississippi was built between the cities of Pascagoula and Moss Point. As Jackson County grew and changed, the need for a larger, more modern facility became evident. In 1959, a new facility known as Singing River Hospital was opened to serve Jackson County residents.

In 1968, Ocean Springs Hospital was opened as a "sister" hospital to Singing River Hospital, and they combined to comprise Singing River Hospital System. This multi-hospital arrangement was the first of its kind in the state of Mississippi.

A 414-bed facility provides the most comprehensive and complete medical services for the citizens of Jackson County, Mississippi, and the combined Mississippi Gulf Coast area.
