MR Poetry Series Contest Winners
Mississippi Review Announces Winners and Finalists in the
2010 Poetry Series Contest
We are pleased to announce the winners and finalists for the first Mississippi Review Poetry Series contest as selected by Dara Wier. The three books to be published immediately are:
Other Prohibited Items by Martha Greenwald
Minimum Heroic by Christopher Salerno
Fifty Poems by Liana Quill
In addition, we would like to congratulate the following finalists who were in close consideration to the very end.
The Robot Scientist's Daughter by Jeannine Hall Gailey
mean numbers by Ian Ganassi
A Hand in Place of a Hand by Jonathan Musgrove
Striking Surface by Jason Schneiderman
Wave by Andrew Sofer
Homeseeker's Paradise by Liz Waldner
Tuesday Marriage Death by Theodore Worozbyt
We would like to express our appreciation to all who sent work to the contest. While we have run a Mississippi Review Prize contest previously, the idea to do a book contest was new to us last spring. And to do three books at once was just gravy.
Response from poets across the country was terrific and there were many wonderful manuscripts that were remarked by readers and final judge alike as eminently publishable. Decisions were very hard across the board. We will do our best to get these first three books out in a timely way and with good production values that the authors and the publisher can be proud of--good papers, excellent design, quality printing. And when we've got them done, right around the first of the year it looks like, we will send a set of the winners' books to every one of the entrants.
Many thanks for your participation,
Frederick Barthelme
