Through
an agreement with three major vendors of Geographic and
Remotes Sensing software, we are able to provide this software
to faculty, staff, and students at any institute of higher
learning and junior/community college. Each of the four
major universities in the state are assigned an area to
serve. A representative from each campus is selected to
distribute licenses and software. The University of Southern
Mississippi covers all institutes in the southern third
of the state.
The role of the campus coordinator is to facilitate the
transition to usage of this software. I would like everyone
to take advantage of this free software and learn how to
use it to your advantage. Although it is based on geographic
attributes, it can be applied to almost any field. I can
help you select the most appropriate package to install.
Further duties include installation, technical support,
data sharing, software management, and license renewals.
We currently have over 200 users in the south Mississippi
area and the
number
continues to grow.
In addition to the software, free online courses and conference
registrations are provided by ESRI, a leading GIS company.
There are a few restrictions, so be sure to read over
the
eligibility page. If you have
any questions or would like to learn more about how this
software can enhance your
research, feel free to contact me
anytime.
