Mississippi Oral History Project
10th Anniversary Celebration

Join the Mississippi Humanities Council, the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, and the University of Southern Mississippi Center for Oral History and Cultural Heritage for a live theater performance by students from the award-winning WINGS Performing Arts Program, who will bring to life stories from the Mississippi Oral History collection.

Hors d'oeuvres, beverages, guest speakers, a sampling of recorded oral histories and a listening/recording station will also be available to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this statewide history project.

Event schedule in the Mississippi State Capitol Rotunda: 

1 p.m. “Why the Mississippi Oral History Project Matters,”  Dr. Charles Bolton, Professor of History, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro 

2 and 4 p.m.  Performance of “Tumblin’ Down” a original play by G.M Calhoun, based on oral histories from the Mississippi Oral History Project. Performed by WINGS Performing Arts Program, Gulfport. 

3 p.m. Special recognitions by Dr. Barbara Carpenter, Director of the Mississippi Humanities Council.
