This CD is dedicated to the memory of the late Dr. Norbert Carnovale, Professor Emeritus of the School of Music. Dr. Norbert Carnovale joined USM's faculty in 1962 as a teacher of applied trumpet and also took over
the reins of the previously student-led swing band. He later served as Chairman of the Department of Music and Director of the Music Industry program. He played a crucial role in the development of the Doctorate of Musical
Arts program and the Music Industry program. Dr. Carnovale earned his Bachelor of Music in trumpet performance from Louisiana State University, his Master of Music Education from Columbia University Teachers College, and,
eventually, his DMA from the University of Iowa. He authored numerous articles, including two books, a bio-bibliography on Gunther Schuller, and a recently published bio-bibliography on George Gershwin. In addition, he was an
accomplished trumpet player in both jazz and classical idioms.
