Larry D. Smith, lyric-baritone and professor of music, is in his 20th year as voice teacher and ensemble director at The University of Southern Mississippi. He also is director of music at the First Presbyterian Church of Hattiesburg, Miss.
Dr. Smith earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Mississippi and the doctorate of musical arts from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. An active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers, Dr. Smith serves as conductor, clinician and adjudicator internationally, nationally and regionally. He is past chair of the Mississippi Chapter of AGEHR.
He also performs as vocal soloist in recitals and oratorio. Dr. Smith sang the baritone role in Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, the tenor solos in Britten's Saint Nicolas, and the tenor solos in Britten's War Requiem with the USM Symphony Orchestra.
