Audition Information

Undergraduate Auditions

Undergraduate students interested in pursuing flute studies at The University of Southern Mississippi School of Music must audition for acceptance into the music program. Auditions on campus may be arranged by contacting Dr. Mezzadri or by registering for the audition dates on the School of Music Web Site.  Although live auditions are preferred, audio or video taped auditions are acceptable.

Undergraduate auditions consist of two contrasting solos/etudes from the standard flute repertory and a short selection of sight-reading. An accompanist is not required for undergraduate auditions.

Graduate Auditions

Graduate students interested in pursuing the master of music and the doctorate of musical arts at The University of Southern Mississippi School of Music must audition for acceptance into the music program. Auditions on campus may be arranged by contacting Dr. Mezzadri or by registering for the audition dates on the School of Music Web Site.  Although live auditions are preferred, audio or video taped auditions are acceptable.

Graduate auditions must include four pieces from the standard flute repertory and at least three standard orchestral excerpts. An accompanist is required for auditions.

Graduate music majors are eligible for graduate teaching assistantships that waive all out-of-state and in-state tuition and pay a monthly stipend divided over a nine-month period. Assistantships are granted on a two-year basis and may be renewed for a third year by petition. Graduate students may also apply for assistantships in other areas such as music theory and music history. School of Music fees are not covered by the Assistantships.  Scholarships are also available.
