APPLICATION / AUDITION INFORMATION

AUDITIONS

  • Schedule an audition by calling 601.266.4092 or e-mail the director of choral activities at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
  • Prepare one or two solo works.
  • Auditions will also include simple vocal exercises and sight-reading.
  • Auditions by tape may be accepted for those who are unable to travel to campus. Results will be confirmed by letter.

Singer VOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS

All vocal scholarships (service awards) at Southern Miss are awarded for participation in two ensembles. Students are required to be in one of the three daily ensembles (the Southern Chorale, the Concert Choir, or the University Singers), and all must participate in the Hattiesburg Choral Union. Scholarships are granted on the basis of the student’s musical ability and potential, teacher recommendation, desire and attitude, and the needs of the student. Awards generally range from $200 to $2000 annually, renewable for four years, with the higher awards offered to truly exceptional students majoring in music. Out-of-state tuition scholarships for over $4000 each year are also available. Awards are made to students of all majors. The University of Southern Mississippi provides additional financial assistance to academically talented students. Students with special financial needs should call the university’s Financial Aid Office immediately at 601.266.4774.

For best advantage, apply as early as possible as the priority deadline for financial aid is March 15.
