Mary Chung holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from North Greenville University and a Master of Music in Piano Performance from The University of Southern Mississippi. She began playing piano in South Korea and continued with her studies at the National Conservatory of Music in the Dominican Republic where she earned a Performance Diploma.

Chung’s performances include appearing as a soloist with the Sinfonía-Puerto Rico Chamber Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra in the Dominican Republic, and the North Greenville Chamber Orchestra in South Carolina. Ms. Chung has also performed as a recitalist, both in solo and chamber music, in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Canada, and the United States. Her solo awards include first place in the 11th Luis A. Ferré International Piano Competition (Puerto Rico), finalist in the Concerto Competition at the Brevard Music Festival, alternate winner in Mississippi’s MTNA Young Artist Auditions, as well as recipient of the Music Teachers National Association’s Student Achievement Recognition Award at North Greenville University. Last year, Chung held one of The University of Southern Mississippi Doctoral Assistantship Awards, a competitive award for doctoral students who have exhibited outstanding work.

In addition to Chung’s solo performances, she is active in collaborative work and teaching. She has accompanied numerous degree recitals and masterclasses, as well as state, regional, and national competitions for both singers and instrumentalists. Chung has also served as pianist for the Southern Opera and Music Theater Company, the Southern Chorale, and the Oratorio Chorus. Chung has taught as an adjunct professor at Belhaven College in Mississippi, and as a piano instructor at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan and in class piano at The University of Southern Mississippi. She teaches piano classes and serves as a coordinator of accompanying service.
