Jazz Quartet/Quintet

The Southern Miss JQ (Quartet/Quintet) started out life as the USM Jazz Quintet in 1995, a joint venture of a few Southern Miss School of Music faculty and some very talented students.  As new School of Music faculty who had an interest in jazz came onboard, it became an all faculty group and continues in that tradition. The group is comprised of Larry Panella, Director of Jazz Studies on saxes; Dr. John Wooton, Director of Percussion Studies on mallet percussion and vocals, Dr. Joseph Brumbeloe from the Music Theory division on piano; and Dr. Marcos Machado, Professor of Applied Bass.
