Sounds of the season will reverberate throughout the sanctuary at Main Street Baptist Church in Hattiesburg as The University of Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra presents its annual Holiday Choral Spectacular at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2 and Thursday, Dec. 4.
In addition to the Symphony Orchestra, the special evening of music will feature The Southern Chorale, Concert Choir, Southern Miss Men and Women's Choruses and local choral groups from Forrest County Agricultural, Columbia Academy, Oak Grove High School, Sumrall, Lamar Christian, Laurel High School and Hattiesburg High School.
Michael Mason and Kevin Smathers were honored as the 2014 Boardman Distinguished Alumni of the Year by the College of Business at The University of Southern Mississippi during the annual Honors Banquet held on Nov. 20 at the Thad Cochran Center.
The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Art and Design is hosting "Data Porn: Penetrating Information Design," a rich, visual display of the history of informaiton design that will be on display through Nov. 28 in the Learning Commons Gallery of Cook Library on the Hattiesburg campus. The DuBard School for Language Disorders at The University of Southern Mississippi is currently enrolling for an after-school program to serve young struggling readers. The Language Enhancement and Achievement Program (LEAP) is designed for elementary students with challenges in reading, spelling and written language, who may or may not have a diagnosis of dyslexia.

A research consortia led by The University of Southern Mississippi has been awarded $11 million by the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GoMRI) to conduct scientific studies of the impacts of oil, dispersed oil and dispersant on the Gulf’s ecosystem and public health.
