As Halloween approaches many people already are planning a unique and fun costume for the holiday. Kelsey Meeks, founder of ‘WEEN DREAM, is seeing to it that children all over the country get the opportunity to dress up and celebrate.
Meeks, a native of Pensacola, Fla., graduated from The University of Southern Mississippi in 2005 with a degree in broadcast journalism and Spanish. Following graduation she moved to New Orleans where she earned a degree from Tulane Law School in 2010. Today she resides in New Orleans and works with Wall, Bullington & Cook, LLC, an oil and gas boutique firm.
Applications for faculty awards at The University of Southern Mississippi are due to the Office of the Provost during the month of November, beginning Nov. 3. The awards include the Aubrey Keith Lucas and Ella Ginn Lucas Endowment for Faculty Excellence; Excellence in University Service; Excellence in University Teaching; and Grand Marshal-Distinguished Professor.
Patricia Condon, a graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Library and Information Science, took first place in the 2014 Association for Library and Information Science Education’s (ALISE) Jean Tague Sutcliffe Doctoral Student Research Poster Competition. The competition was established in memory of Jean Tague-Sutcliffe, professor and former dean of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Western Ontario.
The University of Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra will present a concert entitled “Made in America” that will feature Natasha Trethewey, the current Mississippi Poet Laureate and former United States Poet Laureate on Thursday, Nov. 6 at Bennett Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus.
The Saturday Gifted Studies Program will be held Jan. 17 – Feb. 28, 2015 on the Hattiesburg campus of the University of Southern Mississippi. The program meets on seven consecutive Saturdays from 9 a.m. – noon from the middle of January through February.
The 16th annual Shell Finish Line/Alumni Homecoming Golf Tournament will be held at Hattiesburg Country Club, the official country club of the Southern Miss Alumni Association, Friday, Nov. 7. The tournament will kick off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. in conjunction with The University of Southern Mississippi’s Homecoming festivities.
