Generating $15,560,117 during fiscal year 2013-14, The University of Southern Mississippi Foundation reports its second highest fundraising total in gifts and pledges received during a single fiscal year. This represents an 82 percent increase over the amount raised last year.
This year’s giving total is a testament to the loyalty and commitment of the alumni and friends of Southern Miss,” said Shannon Fleming, executive director of the USM Foundation.
The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Theater will present Mary Poppins Feb. 26 – March 1, 2015. Tickets go on sale in November, with first priority given to Symphony season ticket holders and members of Partners for the Arts.

This is a question researchers from The University of Southern Mississippi, along with dozens of high school students in Mississippi and Alabama, are hoping to have answered after their research project, “Pioneering Mars,” boards the International Space Station (ISS).
Volunteer Mississippi awarded AmeriCorps State grants to 13 organizations across the state earlier this month, including a pair of programs at the University of Southern Mississippi. These grants will support more than 100 AmeriCorps members who will focus on academic engagement and financial literacy training in South Mississippi.
Dr. Karen S. Coats, a decorated scholar with nearly 25 years as an educator and administrator, has been named the new dean of the Graduate School at The University of Southern Mississippi. She will begin work in Hattiesburg on Aug. 1, pending IHL Board approval.
Ellen Ruffin serves as an associate professor and curator for University Libraries at the University of Southern Mississippi, and is passionate about the unique items that can be found in its renowned de Grummond Children's Literature Collection.
